New Delhi [India], July 1 (ANI): The implementation of three new criminal laws will be a significant step towards modernising the criminal justice delivery system, said Dr. Adish C Aggarwala, outgoing President of Supreme Court Bar Association and Chairman of All India Bar Association.
“One of the important changes brought in by the new laws is the introduction of specific timelines for conducting trials and delivering verdicts”, said Dr. Adish C Aggarwala, Senior Advocate.
While saluting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for decolonizing “British-era criminal laws”, Dr. Aggarwala, who has been Vice-Chairman of the Bar Council of India, described that the implementation of these three new Acts will strengthen our response to crimes and will enhance the faith of people in the law enforcement machinery and criminal justice delivery system of India.
“After hearing arguments, the Judge shall give a judgement within 30 days from the date of completion of arguments, which may be extended to a period of 45 days for reasons to be recorded in writing. For every stage of court proceedings, there is a time limit,” said Aggarwala.
These three new criminal laws encompass substantive crime, procedure, and evidence. These laws aim at digitising various aspects of criminal procedure. From the initial registration of a First Information Report (FIR) to the final delivery of judgement, every stage of a criminal investigation is slated to be recorded digitally under the purview of these 3 new Acts.
