New Delhi [India], July 2 (ANI): Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday slammed the Congress for creating a ruckus during PM Modi’s speech in Lok Sabha and said that this is against the tradition of our Indian Parliamentary democracy.
Rijiju said, “The opposition’s reaction during the Prime Minister’s speech is condemnable. Every party was given an extension and the Congress was allotted 3 hours 48 minutes to speak. Yesterday Congress did not give time to its Manipur MP to speak. When there is a discussion on a bill or motion in the Lok Sabha, the party decides who will speak. When they should have given their MP a chance to speak, they did not let him speak, and when PM Narendra Modi got up to speak, they alleged that their Manipur MP was not allowed to speak.”
The BJP leader also pointed out that in the last 10 years it has been seen that whenever the PM speaks, Congress people start creating ruckus.
“Congress should apologize to the people of Manipur for politicizing such a sensitive matter. I feel sorry for the new MPs. How will they learn? When the Prime Minister is speaking, the MPs are not being given a chance to hear what he is saying. This is not the tradition of our Indian Parliamentary democracy,” Rijiju added.
Meanwhile, the First Session of the 18th Lok Sabha, which commenced on June 24, witnessed a productivity of 103 per cent in seven sittings of the house.
Lok Sabha was adjourned sine die on Tuesday after the House adopted the motion of thanks on the President’s address following the reply to the debate by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Opposition members constantly raised slogans during PM Modi’s speech over the situation in Manipur.
After the conclusion of PM Modi’s reply to the debate, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh moved a motion in the House condemning the behavior of opposition members.
He said the opposition members have violated the parliamentary traditions.
Speaker Om Birla said the conduct of opposition members was not in accordance with the parliamentary traditions. He emphasized that the House runs according to rules and will do so.
This was the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha after the results of the Lok Sabha polls earlier this month. The session began on June 24 with oath-taking by the new members.
The BJP-led NDA formed its third successive government following the Lok Sabha polls. While the NDA won 293 seats, the opposition INDIA bloc won 243 seats. (ANI)
