Guwahati (Assam) [India], August 15 (ANI): The Income Tax Department has summoned Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bhupen Kumar Borah and asked him to produce books of accounts or documents at Aayakar Bhawan in Guwahati on August 16.
An official release by the Income Tax Department stated that Bhupen Kumar Borah’s attendance is required in connection with the proceedings under the Income Tax Act 1961.
“You are hereby required to attend Aayakar Bhawan, Guwahati on August 16, 2024, to give evidence or to produce either personally or through an authorized representative the books of account or other documents specified below and not to depart until you receive my permission to do so,” said the release.
“Without prejudice to the provisions of any other law for the time being in force, if you intentionally omit to so attend and give evidence or produce the books of accounts or documents, a penalty of Rs 10,000 may be imposed upon you under section 272 (1)(c) of the Income Tax Act, 1961 for each such default or failure,” added the release.
Earlier on August 11, the Assam Pradesh Congress president said that the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) will hold crucial party leaders and workers’ meeting in the first week of September to strengthen the party organisation and to discuss the upcoming bye-elections for five assembly constituencies and panchayat polls in the state.
He further said that to strengthen the party, they have taken various initiatives.
On the other hand, talking about the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls for two seats in Assam, the APCC president said that, at present, they don’t have enough MLAs in the state assembly to win the Rajya Sabha election.
“If anyone will come and desire to contest in the Rajya Sabha polls, then we may think about this. But as of now, no one has come forward,” Bhupen Kumar Borah said. (ANI)
