New Delhi [India], August 19 (ANI): Delhi-based women refugees from Pakistan tied Rakhi to Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan here today, a statement released on Monday said.
As per the statement from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Union Minister Piyush Goyal also celebrated Raksha Bandhan with Sadhvi Rithambara and Brahmakumari sisters.
Speaking on the occasion, Goyal said that the Citizenship Act would provide safety and security to the migrants who have been given nationality under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
“The Citizenship (Amendment) Act has provided respect and safety that is your right,” he said, adding “This is one of the best Raksha Bandhan celebrations of my life”.
He said that due to the strong will of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, all these sisters have been able to get Indian citizenship under CAA, as per the statement.
“Today on the occasion of Rakshabandhan, I got the chance to get Rakhi tied by my sisters. I am very happy that due to the strong will of the PM Narendra Modi all these sisters have been able to get Indian citizenship under CAA,” the Minister posted on X.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated Raksha Bandhan with school girls tying rakhis on his wrist in the national capital on Monday.
PM Modi greeted people on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan and prayed for everyone’s happiness and prosperity.
“Best wishes to all countrymen on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, a festival symbolizing the immense love between brother and sister. May this holy festival bring new sweetness in the relationships of all of you and happiness, prosperity and good fortune in life,” PM Modi posted on X.
President Droupadi Murmu also extended greetings on the festival that celebrates the bond between siblings.
In a post on X, President Droupadi Murmu said, “On the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan, I extend my heartfelt greetings and best wishes to all the countrymen. This festival, based on the feeling of love and mutual trust between brothers and sisters, instils a feeling of affection and respect towards all sisters and daughters.”
She also urged the citizens to take a pledge to ensure the safety and respect of women in society.
“I would like that on this festival day, all the countrymen to take a pledge to ensure the safety and respect of women in our society,” the post further read.
