New Delhi [India], August 22 (ANI): The Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnaw, on Thursday launched 25 challenges under the ‘ Create in India Challenge–Season 1’ for the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit ( WAVES).
Addressing on the occasion, Vaishnaw said that today’s launch is a reflection of our growing and evolving economy. An entirely new creator economy has been created and this has also been recognised by the Prime Minister of India, as reflected in the first National Creator Awards to be presented by him in March 2024.
Incremental Creators Economy : Opportunities , Infrastructure and Job Creation
Highlighting the immense potential in this economy, the Union Minister said that the Creators Economy has become a wonderful medium to showcase our rich cultural heritage, lifestyle, yoga, traditional medicine system and diversity in our cuisine.
The Government of India is leaving no stone unturned to encourage this economy. Hence, we need to ensure availability of necessary infrastructure along with talent and skill development in this sector.
To further develop this creator economy, the government is focusing on building world-class talent development programmes and infrastructure. There are plans to set up world-class universities and facilities that will enhance the capabilities of creators in media and entertainment, he said.
Use of new technologies in filmmaking : Employment generation
Ashwini Vaishnav emphasised that filmmaking is one of our strengths and in today’s age, there is a lot of scope for using new technology and equipment in this sector, ensuring good scope for job creation. It is estimated that if implemented successfully, the programme can generate 2-3 lakh jobs in this sector.
Social responsibility
At the same time, the Union Minister also reminded that we have to ensure that our society does not suffer in this journey and the responsibility for this is not just of the government but of society, industry and all of us.
He said that WAVES is being organised to take advantage of the immense potential in this sector and it is going to emerge as a big event in the future.
Sanjay Jaju, Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Neerja Shekhar, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Jyoti Vij, Director General, FICCI, Biren Ghosh, Vice Chairman, CII National Committee on Media & Entertainment were also among the dignitaries present at the event.
‘Design in India, Design for the World’
Speaking on the occasion, Sanjay Jaju said that this initiative is a significant milestone in our ongoing mission to nurture and elevate India’s creative ecosystem.
“This seamlessly aligns with the visionary call of our Prime Minister to ‘Design in India, Design for the World’ expressed during his 78th Independence Day address,” he added.
Highlighting the immense potential and talent within the country, he said that Waves is a testament to this potential and will serve as a global platform where the brightest minds, most talented creators and visionary stalwarts from across the world will gather to share knowledge, exchange ideas and push the boundaries of creativity.
‘ Create in India Challenge – Season 1’
Organised by leading industry associations and organisations, these challenges cover a range of disciplines including animation, filmmaking, gaming, music and visual arts. These challenges are being held before the main event. (ANI)
