Agartala (Tripura) [India], August 24 (ANI): In the wake of torrential rainfall, flood victims were moved to the government relief camps in Agartala on Saturday to ensure they get the necessary facilities and be safe from the disaster.
The rescue teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), in a Friday evening operation, evacuated 125 people, from various flood-affected parts of Tripura.
Meanwhile, speaking to ANI, a flood victim, staying at camp, Aruna Sarkar said, “My father’s house is here at Jayanagar. I have come to this relief camp this morning but my family members have been here for a couple of days and they said everything is fine over here. Right from the food for infants, water and all the other things are there with nice arrangement. The government has done nice work,” said Sarkar.
Another person, Ananta Vaishnav present at the facility explained that they have been provided with every service to keep the children comfortable. The relief camps reportedly have a tiffin service for children. Vaishnav also thanked Chief Minister Manik Saha for arranging the facilities for everyone.
Rupa Sarkar Kar, one of the cooks at the facility also confirmed the meal timings for the people, with everyone being provided timely meals. “Now I am cooking Dal, Potato fry & pumpkin Varta. Abundant food is there for all, no scarcity”, said Rupa Sarkar.
Priya Chakraborty, another person, who has taken shelter at the relief camp recounted her experience of how her house had been flooded up to neck level and how floods damaged her properties.
“A lot of properties have been damaged in my house. Like my quilt, my mattress, my pillow, all essential commodities but here in this camp government is offering everything; lunch, dinner, everything is good but I would be happy if the government helped us to revive the lost properties”, said Chakraborty to the state government.
Another flood victim, Apuva Das said that he had never faced such a terrible flood in 37 years. He said that his house was swept away in the flood, and he is staying at the refugee camp.
As per the report, a total of 558 relief camps have been set up by the district administration since August 19. (ANI)
