New Delhi [India], September 24 (ANI): Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the 41st Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Commanders’ Conference at the Coast Guard Headquarters on Tuesday. The conference is scheduled at New Delhi from 24 to 26 September.
This annual gathering serves as a vital forum for ICG Senior Commanders to engage in meaningful discussions on pressing strategic, operational, and administrative matters, all framed against the backdrop of shifting geopolitical landscapes and the complexities of maritime security. The conference plays a crucial role in shaping the future course of the ICG, according to a statement by the Ministry of Defence.
The Defence Minister interacted with ADG S Paramesh, Director General ICG (Addl. Charge) and other senior Coast Guard Commanders on pivotal issues concerning national and maritime security.
“The world is going through a phase of technological revolution. In this era of Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Technology and drones, the field of security is witnessing significant changes. Given the current geopolitical situation, maritime threats will increase in the future. We need to be alert and ready. The importance of manpower will always remain, but the world should know us as a technology-oriented Coast Guard,” the Defence Minister said.
During the Conference, the ICG Commanders also had the opportunity to interact with the Chief of Defence Staff, as well as the Chief of the Naval Staff and the Engineer-in-Chief. These discussions are designed to foster collaboration among the services across the full spectrum of maritime security, while also promoting the growth and infrastructure development of the Indian Coast Guard.
“The conference also provides a distinguished platform for senior ICG leaders to meticulously evaluate key operational, material, logistical, HR development, training, and administrative initiatives undertaken over the past year. Additionally, they will deliberate on vital milestones essential for the protection of our maritime interests,” added the statement.
Highlighting the importance of ‘Make in India’, the statement said, “The Commanders will also assess ongoing ICG projects designed to bolster Indigenisation through the ‘Make in India’ initiative, harmonising with the Government of India’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. As a pivotal forum, the Commanders’ Conference underscores the Indian Coast Guard’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding India’s maritime interests and reaffirms its role as the guardian of the nation’s maritime frontiers.” (ANI)
