Dhar (Madhya Pradesh) [India], June 22 (ANI): Seven persons were arrested in connection with assaulting a tribal woman in Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar district, a police official said on Saturday.
The incident occurred in Kundi village under the jurisdiction of Tanda police station limits in the district on Thursday evening and a video of the incident went viral on Friday. Following this, the police investigated the matter and registered an FIR (First Information Report) into the matter.
Superintendent of Police (SP, Dhar) Manoj Kumar Singh told ANI, “A video of a woman being assaulted went viral on Friday evening. As soon as we came to know about the matter, we immediately investigated the matter. It came to our notice that the video is of Kundi village under Tanda police station limits in the district, where sarpanch, villager and family members of the woman assaulted her. We identified the accused and on the complaint of the woman, we registered a case under section 307 and 34 of the IPC into the matter,”
Besides, the sarpanch who was assaulting the woman with a stick in the video was immediately arrested and later six more accused who were involved in the crime were also nabbed. A total of seven accused involved in assaulting the woman were arrested and strict action will be taken against them, the SP said.
“Madhya Pradesh government and Dhar police are sensitive towards crime against women. Respect, safety and security of women are our first priority. I want to make people aware that if anyone misbehaves with women then strict action will be taken against them. Those who were seen in the assault video have been arrested, we are going to take strict action against them,” he added.
According to FIR copy, a copy of which is with ANI, the accused have been identified as Nursingh Bhuriya (Sarpanch), Indersingh Bhil, Kharu Bhil, Ballu Bhil, Antar Bhil, Madiya Bhil, and Gulabsingh Bhil. (ANI)
