Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], September 5 (ANI): The Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) staged a protest on Thursday over the rape and murder of the trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital. They demanded the death penalty for the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital Dr Sandip Ghosh.
Pramod Pandey from INTUC said, “Today is Teacher’s Day. We demand the death penalty for the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital Dr Sandip Ghosh. He should be given the death penalty immediately. Today 22 to 23 days are over and till now the accused has not been sentenced. A case of forgery has been registered against him. He has not been accused in the main crime yet which happened at the RG Kar Medical Hospital.”
Former Principal of RG Kar Medical College, Sandip Ghosh, on Wednesday filed a petition in the Supreme Court against a Calcutta High Court decision that ordered the CBI probe into the graft case against him.
His plea has been listed on September 6 before a bench led by Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud.
The Anti-Corruption Branch of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Dr Sandip Ghosh on September 2. Dr Ghosh was under investigation for alleged corruption and financial irregularities at the college and hospital, following a directive from a single bench of the Calcutta High Court, which ordered the CBI to probe the matter. He was sent to 8-day police custody on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, West Bengal Legislative Assembly LoP Suvendu Adhikari wrote to President of India Droupadi Murmu and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, requesting them to withdraw/forfeit the President’s Police Medal and Police Medal conferred upon Vineet Goyal, presently Commissioner of Police, Kolkata, alleging shameful conduct during the course of investigations into the rape and murder of the trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College.
In a post on X, Suvendu Adhikari shared, “I have written a letter to the President of India Droupadi Murmu Ji requesting her to withdraw/forfeit the prestigious President’s Police Medal and Police Medal conferred upon Vineet Goyal; IPS, (West Bengal: RR – 1994), presently Commissioner of Police, Kolkata, in connection with his reprehensible, deplorable and shameful conduct during the course of investigations into the rape and murder of the Resident Doctor of RG Kar Medical College, Kolkata.”
In the latest development in the Kolkata doctor rape-murder case, a member of the family of the victim accused the Kolkata Police of trying to offering them money when they were crying and sitting with the mortal remains of their daughter inside the house.
“When the body of the daughter was lying in front of the parents in the house, the police were offering money, is this the humanity of the police?” said the aunt of the deceased doctor.
These allegations came while addressing media persons after the family of the deceased doctor joined protests at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on Wednesday night. (ANI)
