Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], August 31 (ANI): Amid the sexual abuse allegations that have hit the Malayalam film industry, where the police have registered eleven cases, including one against CPI (M) MLA Mukesh, CPI (M) Kerala Secretary MV Govindan said that regardless of status, everyone would be accountable in front of the law.
Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, Govindan further stated that the Kerala government had set an example for the entire country in its commitment to provide justice by taking action even against an MLA from the ruling party.
“The police registered eleven cases, including one against CPI(M) MLA Mukesh. The government is demonstrating its commitment to justice even by taking action against an MLA from the ruling party. The Kerala government is setting an example for the entire country with its approach… If an accused MLA resigns and is later proven innocent, there is no legal provision to reinstate him. However, no special privileges should be given to anyone during the investigation. The party’s stand is that justice should be delivered to all. Regardless of status, everyone must be held accountable before the law,” he said.
Govindan also mentioned that it was the first time in India that a “committee had been appointed to investigate and resolve issues within the film industry,” and a committee had also been appointed to formulate a cinema policy.
“A committee headed by Shaji N. Karun has been appointed to formulate a cinema policy…A time has already been set to hold a conclave to formulate a cinema policy. We will decide after discussions with everyone involved. Currently, there is consideration to remove Mukesh from such committees. Therefore, we will take the necessary time to make a decision. The government has no intention of rushing into the conclave or announcing a cinema policy,” he later added.
Speaking on the campaign demanding the resignation of MLA Mukesh by the opposition parties, Govindan said, “There are 16 MPs and 135 MLAs across the country who are accused in cases involving women, including 54 BJP MPs and 23 Congress MPs. None of them have resigned from their positions; none have stepped down from their roles.”
On the action taken by the party against PK Sasi following serious financial misappropriation on his part, Govindan said, “The action against PK Sasi has been approved by the State Committee. He has been removed from the elected positions within the party. The decision to reorganise the Mannarkkad Area Committee has also been approved by the State Committee.” (ANI)
