“Three killed in Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express derailment,” confirms North Eastern Railway – World News Network

New Delhi [India], July 19 (ANI): North Eastern Railway on Friday confirmed that three people have been killed in the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express derailment. Seven have been critically injured and five people have sustained minor injuries.
“The final update that we have as official figures is that three deaths have occurred. Seven more are grievously injured and five have simple injuries,” said CPRO North Eastern Railway Pankaj Kumar.
“Our main focus was on the restoration work and the railways were successful in that too…” he added.
The CPRO of Northeast Railway also informed that train operations will start on the upline soon.
“The coaches that derailed on the down line have been removed… Restoration work is going on at a fast pace. More than 800 workers are working there. Many machines are also working there. Train operations will start on the up-line soon. Three people have died in the accident. We are continuously diverting trains,” he added.
Meanwhile, Divisional Railway Manager of North-Eastern Railway Aditya Kumar said that around 800 railway personnel carried out the restoration work after the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express derailed in Gonda.
“Around 800 railway personnel are carrying out restoration work and the work is likely to be completed by this evening. Trains are running on diverted routes. The upline will be repaired soon and trains will start arriving on it,” said Aditya Kumar.
Notably, as many as 4-5 coaches of the Dibrugarh Express train from the front got derailed. After getting the information, the medical team, along with senior officials from the Lucknow division of NER, immediately rushed to the site.
In addition to the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) inquiry, a high-level inquiry has been ordered into the rail derailment accident. (ANI)
